The Role of Space-Based Observations for Groundwater Resource Monitoring over Africa

Abstract Africa is particularly vulnerable to climate change impacts, which threatens food security, ecosystem protection and restoration initiatives, fresh water resources availability quality. Groundwater largely contributes the mitigation of effects by offering short- long-term transient storage. However, groundwater storage remains extremely difficult monitor. In this paper, we review strengths weaknesses satellite remote sensing techniques for addressing quantity issues with a focus on GRACE space gravimetry, as well concepts combine observations numerical models ground observations. One particular quantification changes in different climatic regions discussion possible anthropogenic drivers. We include thorough literature studies that use research Africa.
